I usually watch subs but I'm getting into anime with a friend who really prefers dubs. Most of the ones I've seen have pretty rough voice acting. Are there any recent anime where the English dub is actually worth watching instead of the original Japanese?
English dubs have actually gotten way better in recent years, so you might be surprised. A lot of shows coming out now have solid voice direction and casting - are you looking for something specific like action, romance, or slice-of-life? That'd help narrow it down since the quality really varies by studio and genre. Also, what's your friend into? Some dubs shine in particular genres where the dialogue-heavy scenes benefit from natural English pacing.
