Can anyone actually make a jar cake that turns out good?

I tried making those layered cakes in jars that everyone's doing on TikTok, but it always comes out with these weird layers and the cake doesn't spread evenly. Is it because I'm using cake that's too soft? Or is there some trick nobody told me about?

Actually, cakes in jars can turn out really good! The thing is the cake really needs to not be too soft - it has to be pretty firm, almost ready to break apart, when you layer it. The trick is letting the cake cool completely, then cutting it into smaller pieces and alternating carefully, without crushing anything! If you alternate slowly and don't rush putting it together, the layers stay straight and everything looks nice. It also helps a ton to have the jar sealed tight so things don't shift during transport.

The cake has to be completely cold, like it just came out of the fridge. The thing is, when you layer the cake while it's still warm, it all falls apart and turns into a mess. Let it cool down a lot, break it into firm pieces (doesn't have to be perfect), and then layer it in the jar with the filling. It makes a huge difference in the result.
