Christmas at school: why do they call it "year-end celebrations" now?

My daughter came home with a paper about "winter festivities" instead of Christmas like it used to be. I get that we need to respect everyone, but what exactly are they doing at school then? Are they just dropping the name or are there actual changes in what they're doing?
