What speaker do you have exactly, and how long is it taking to charge? Because it varies a lot depending on the model.

Generally speaking, portable speakers charge anywhere from 2-3 hours to 5-6 hours depending on battery capacity and charger power. Compact little ones charge fast, and big powerful ones naturally take longer. If your speaker gets hot while charging or freezes up, then yeah, that could be a sign of a problem. But if it just sits there charging for a while - that's normal.

Check what power adapter you're using. If you charge it from some weak phone charger, of course it's gonna take longer. Sometimes a speaker is picky about power - it needs the exact recommended voltage and amperage. And make sure the cable is in good condition, not damaged. Wires wear out over time, and charging gets slower. I reconnect my device every six months or so just to avoid any nasty surprises.

грибник_илья asker JBL Charge 5, takes 5-6 hours to charge. Cable's new, doesn't get hot. Thanks, so that's normal then.

It depends on the battery capacity and the power of the charger that comes with it. Cheap chargers are slower, sometimes intentionally - to keep the battery from overheating. If your speaker used to charge faster and now it's taking forever, the battery's probably degrading or the contacts got oxidized. Check if the cable fits snugly in the port and there's no dirt in there.

Don't panic if the speaker gets warm while charging - that's normal for lithium batteries, as long as the case isn't burning hot. If the charging time has suddenly increased compared to before, the battery is starting to degrade and will need replacing soon.

Long charging times aren't really a problem in themselves - they're pretty much the norm for portable speakers. It all depends on how big the battery is: a speaker with, say, 20 watts of power and a large battery can take five or six hours to charge, and that's totally normal. You should only worry if the charging time has suddenly gotten way longer compared to those first few months of use - that's when the battery might actually be degrading.

Check what charger comes in the box: if your speaker charges through regular USB-A from a basic adapter, it's always going to take longer than if it supported fast charging or USB-C. Sometimes manufacturers deliberately slow things down so the battery lasts longer and doesn't overheat as much.

Check if you've got dust buildup in the charger - a lot of people don't think about that, but the contacts oxidize and charge way slower 🔌 Also try charging with a different cable or adapter if you can, just to figure out whether it's the speaker itself or the charger that's the problem.
