I've been looking for Spanish crime fiction authors who write fresh stuff for a while now, not the same old classics. I love the genre but I've already read all the usual ones. Who's putting out good stories right now?
Don't just stick with what you see in physical stores, because they always have the same names there. There are interesting people doing stuff right now: Dolores Redondo keeps putting out pretty solid novels if you don't already know her work, but if you're looking for something more current, try authors like Javier Castillo or Eva García Sáenz, who have a more modern and snappy style. There's also Carmen Mola, who even though she started with a pseudonym, has some pretty addictive thrillers. If you want to discover more indie people or ones with less media buzz, getting into Goodreads or reader communities on social media gives you access to recommendations that are way fresher than the typical bestseller lists.
