I have a Persian cat, she's 3 years old. She meows and rubs against my legs literally every hour like she's hungry, even though I feed her twice a day according to the recommended amount. Sometimes I give in and give her more food, but then she gets fat. How can I tell when she actually needs food and when she's just manipulating me?
Persian cats in general tend to manipulate and do the whole "asking for food out of boredom" thing, so your cat is probably just doing that. try checking her ribs - if you can feel them without much effort, she's probably not actually hungry, she's just asking for attention or entertainment. instead of food, give her a toy, play with her using a laser pointer, or just pet her - they usually switch gears pretty quick. but if she's actually losing weight, drinking very little, or her behavior has changed drastically, then it might be a health issue, and you should get her checked out by a vet.
