I want to shoot videos for Instagram of walks around the city. I already have an iPhone 15, but the videos come out shaky. Should I get a separate stabilizer like a DJI OM, or do the new flagship phones coming in 2026 already stabilize well enough without extra devices?
If video is already shaky on an iPhone 15, the built-in stabilization is good, but it's not magic. The thing is, even top-tier flagship phones in 2026 mainly stabilize small hand tremors - but when you're walking around the city, you also get hits from uneven pavement, getting jostled in crowds, sudden body turns. A gimbal like the DJI OM handles this way better because it mechanically holds your phone, compensating for larger movements. For Instagram, this is actually a noticeable difference.
But there's a catch: a gimbal is an extra device you need to carry, charge, and pull out. If you're shooting short clips spontaneously, that can be inconvenient. Try a workaround first: shoot in Cinematic Video mode (if your iPhone has it), hold your phone with both hands, and move more smoothly. If that's just not enough and the video quality really bothers you, then it makes sense to look into gimbals.
By the way, if you do go for a gimbal, don't just look at DJI - there are budget options that work fine for Instagram. And keep in mind that a regular tripod with a ball head can also help if you're shooting from one spot.
