How can I actually reduce plastic waste in my daily life?

I'm trying to be more mindful about plastic pollution, but when I go to the supermarket everything is wrapped in plastic. I've tried buying bulk items but here in Milan there aren't many zero-waste shops and they're expensive. What are the most important steps I could start taking right away without completely turning my routine upside down?

The first step is to focus on what you use every day and what you can actually replace: carry a reusable bag with you always, buy loose fruit and vegetables even at a regular supermarket (you often can), and consider switching to concentrated or solid-format detergents that last much longer. For the rest, honestly you don't need to do everything perfectly: if you start avoiding unnecessary packaging like those pre-packaged vegetable containers, maybe choose products with cardboard packaging when you have the option, you're already making a difference without making your life miserable.

something nobody talks about is that "invisible" plastic (secondary packaging, labels, bags inside boxes) weighs more than what you actually see - start paying attention to what you throw away for a week and you'll figure out where it really makes a difference. then, just choosing products with less packaging layers at the supermarket, like milk in cartons instead of 5 plastic bottles, cuts your impact right away without having to go to special stores or spend twice as much.
