First off, avoid white vinegar on aluminum or stainless steel metal - it can leave marks or damage the surface treatment. Soaking with dish liquid works fine, but honestly you need to add a soft brush scrub during or after to get the stubborn grease off, especially in the corners.

If it's really caked on, try a degreasing cleaner like an oven cleaner instead (something like Easy-Off, standard spray basically) - leave it on for 10-15 minutes max, then scrub and rinse well. Quick question though: are your filters metal or synthetic? and can you safely put them in the dishwasher according to the manufacturer?

Olivier_92 asker It's metal. The manufacturer doesn't clearly say whether it's dishwasher-safe, so I don't want to risk it.

I have the same problem at home and hot water alone never really does the trick. Try soaking them for a good half hour in really hot water with some dish soap or a bit of white vinegar, that helps dissolve the grease. After that you can scrub gently with a soft brush or sponge, nothing too aggressive so you don't tear the filter. You don't need any fancy chemical products, just let it soak and a good soak does the job well.

What really works is letting them soak overnight in very hot water with a bit of baking soda - it cuts through the grime way better than vinegar or just dish soap! Then you gently scrub with a soft brush and they come out like new without risking any damage to the filter. For me it saved my hood that was barely pulling any air, now it works like a charm!

For DeLonghi filters, soaking is really the key, but make sure you check the material first 😊 If it's aluminum or stainless steel, forget about vinegar like someone mentioned above. What works great is a good soak (a few hours or overnight) in hot water with dish soap, then a gentle brush to remove the sticky residue without scrubbing too hard. After that you rinse it well and let it dry completely before putting it back, otherwise it can rust or leave marks.
