Why not suggest a compromise before things get to a critical point?

Ideally, you'd bring it up yourself while it still sounds like a proposal rather than a refusal. For example: "I understand clients need proximity to the center, so I'm ready to come in 2-3 times a week or arrange specific days for meetings. For the rest of the work, I can be online from anywhere." The key is not to start with reasons why you don't want to move, but with how you'll be useful in this format. If the company really needs your work, they'll meet you halfway - especially since regular visits are pretty standard practice. It only makes sense to risk your job if you already know your boss is firm about requiring your physical presence.
