I've been working as a mechanical operator for 7 years at a company in Brescia and I'd like to move up within the company. The workshop supervisor has a middle school diploma like me, but how did he manage to advance? Is it worth it for me to start studying something now or is experience enough?
I think experience alone isn't enough anymore like it used to be, especially if the shop foreman got there years ago when things were different. I'd advise you to at least do a technical course or get a recognized certification in the mechanical sector (there are short post-secondary programs) while you keep working, that way you show both commitment and up-to-date skills to your bosses, which makes a difference when they're looking to promote someone.
