The streaks you're seeing aren't really a sign the method isn't working - it's more about the order of operations and what you're using. Try this instead: wipe down with a microfiber cloth slightly dampened with white vinegar first to cut through the grime, then buff dry with a clean, dry microfiber cloth, and finish with a tiny bit of mineral oil or a stainless steel-specific product rubbed in the direction of the grain. The fingerprints will still show up eventually since that's just how stainless steel works, but this approach keeps them looking significantly better between cleanings and avoids the streaky residue that soap and Windex tend to leave behind.
