squeaks usually come from subfloor movement or loose nails/screws rubbing against joists, so you can try driving screws through the hardwood into the subfloor from the top - use a countersink bit to hide the heads and fill with matching wood filler. another approach is to access the underside if you have a basement and drive screws up through the subfloor into the hardwood from below, which avoids any visible marks on the surface. talc or graphite powder worked into the gaps between boards can help dampen squeaks too, though that's more of a temporary Band-Aid. if those don't work and the sound is really localized to one spot like your kitchen area, sometimes just tightening a loose baseboard or checking if joists are resting properly under that section solves it without touching the floor itself.

The real culprit is usually movement between your subfloor and the joists underneath, and talcum powder or powdered graphite forced into the gaps between boards can work wonders - just work it in with a putty knife and let gravity do the rest. If that doesn't quiet things down, you're looking at screwing from underneath if you've got basement access, which beats tearing up the floor!
