An electric standing desk is worth it especially if you spend a lot of time working while sitting and want to switch between sitting and standing. Regularly changing your position is simply better for your back and blood circulation than spending the whole day in the same posture. With a motorized desk, you don't have to crank it yourself - you just press a button and you're done. With cheaper models, you're looking at around 200-300 euros, and for sturdier versions with better build quality, more like 500 euros and up.
But honestly: if you're only at your desk for short stretches anyway or you can barely move around at home, it's probably unnecessary. A regular desk will do the job. The bigger factor is whether you have the discipline to actually switch regularly - lots of people buy one of these desks and then never adjust it again because it's more comfortable to just stay sitting. Try it out first to see if the whole thing actually appeals to you before you spend the money.
If you notice that you get back pain after sitting for a couple of hours or just get totally tense, then a desk like that really does pay off. I have one at home and I use it constantly - raise it in the morning, lower it at midday, raise it again in the evening. Switching between positions really makes a difference, especially if you're otherwise stuck in the same spot all day.
The thing is though: the cheap models sometimes vibrate like crazy when you raise them, and some motors give up after a year already. So it's only worth it if you're willing to spend a bit more on decent quality. My tip, which I rarely hear anyone mention - get yourself a good desk pad or a sturdy monitor stand to go with it. That way you can significantly reduce the vibrations when raising it and your stuff won't wobble around so much.
And honestly: if you only sit at your desk occasionally and are mostly on the go anyway, then you don't need it. But if you spend eight hours a day there, you should seriously consider it. Your back will thank you.
