My apple tree planted 2 years ago still hasn't fruited, is that normal?

I planted a Gala apple sapling I bought at Leroy Merlin about 2 years ago in my backyard. It's grown a lot, it's about 3 meters tall now, but it's never flowered. My neighbor has an apple tree that fruits every year. Is there something wrong with mine or is it just a matter of waiting longer?

Apple trees really do take time to start producing, especially if it was planted small - it's normal to wait 3 to 4 years or even longer before the first flowering. But the rapid growth (3 meters in 2 years) might be working against you: the tree is putting all its energy into leaves and branches instead of flowers, which is common when there's too much nitrogen available. Try checking if the soil doesn't have excess fertilizer and remove some lateral branches to encourage fruiting - sometimes pruning a bit forces the tree to reproduce. As for your neighbor, he might have a different variety, or even an older one, so his timeline isn't a guarantee for yours.
