Should I go for a budget spot or is it better to pay for tuition?

I got an offer for a state-funded spot at a university for a pretty competitive major, but the curriculum is really tough. At the same time, I have the option to study at another university on a paid basis, where it's supposedly easier and there's more practical work. What should I choose?

Don't choose based on the "easier is better" principle - that's a trap, and you might end up with a degree from an easy university that nobody really wants. Go for a budget spot in a competitive field - that's where a rigorous program will actually work in your favor when you're job hunting, and you definitely shouldn't underestimate the financial side of things.
