I'm in university and I need to decide between an iPad or a laptop for classes and assignments. I have the budget for one of them, but I'm not sure which is more practical for taking notes, doing research, and working with documents. Does anyone have experience with both?
A laptop is more versatile for academic work because you can use specific programs, edit documents without limitations, and research more easily. A tablet is great if you want something light to carry in your backpack and prefer taking notes by hand with a stylus, but you'll need alternative apps for some tasks and it can get annoying for heavier work in Word, Excel and that sort of thing. If you only have the budget for one, go with a laptop - in your place, I'd buy a basic notebook that costs less than a top-tier iPad and you get way more functionality. You can get a tablet later when you have extra cash.
