Textured or smooth paint for a wall with moisture?

RA RafaelBarbosa BR 🌱 Newbie 👁 40 ⚑ Report Finishing

My apartment has a moisture infiltration problem on the living room wall and I'm thinking about doing a new finish. I saw there are special paints for moisture, but I'm unsure whether I should use textured paint to hide it better or if smooth is better for cleaning later. Which one do you guys recommend?

Before you pick a paint, you really need to fix the moisture problem first - otherwise any finish is gonna peel anyway. But to answer your question: smooth paint is better for damp walls because textured paint will absorb more water and get moldy more easily, plus it's a nightmare to clean when that happens. If you want to hide imperfections, use good-quality paint with a matte finish (not glossy) and that already helps a lot without needing texture.
