It's not really about the type of floor lamp, more about the space you've got and what you want to light up. For a small studio, forget about those big bulky things - a slim floor lamp with an articulated arm takes up nothing and you can direct it wherever you want, or otherwise a reading lamp on a stand that barely takes up space. The main thing is that it doesn't eat up your floor space and the light is practical, like bright enough to work but not too harsh.

For a small studio, the real question is mainly where you're going to put it and how it'll work with your furniture. A slim floor lamp is a solid choice (it's light, doesn't take up too much space), but you really need to think about the bulb and color temperature. A lot of people go with cool white everywhere and then it's super depressing in the evening. Something between 2700K and 3000K is way better for creating a relaxed vibe.

There's a trap nobody talks about: the lamp's height relative to what you're actually doing in there. If you're working at a desk or reading a lot, a lamp that's too short will create weird shadows and you'll end up straining your eyes. Measure the height of your main seat and make sure the bulb is at least 45-60cm above your head. Also, check the stability - in a small studio people tend to shove it in a corner where it'll get knocked around. A base that's slightly flared or has a heavy base is honestly way better than something that barely stays upright.

Otherwise, if space is really tight, a wall sconce or a reading light that clips above your couch or bed can totally save you, it takes up zero floor space.
