It really depends on her taste, but generally people her age like practical stuff that matches their hobbies.
If she's into creativity, some good drawing materials, a quality sketchbook or even a digital drawing tablet are worth it - I actually got one for my niece and she's glued to it.
Now if she's more into sports, cool equipment for whatever sport she likes, some good headphones, or even a voucher to do something she's always wanted to do with friends works really well too.
But something tied to her hobbies is always a safe bet - if she likes sports like hockey or skating, something along those lines. If she's more into creative stuff, some beginner interior design kits could be cool too, like those decoration apps for tablets.
The thing is, at 12 years old every girl is completely different. Some are still into playing around, others already want more "grown-up" stuff. What works best is thinking about what she actually spends her time doing, not just her main hobbies. A girl who spends hours on her phone might prefer a decent power bank or some phone accessories, while another one who likes being outdoors might want good headphones to listen to music while she's out and about.
There's also the age thing itself. In this age range it's really common for them to like things that make them feel more grown up - a diary with a lock, a cheap smartwatch, shoes that their friends have. If the girl has friends who already use certain products, peer pressure is real at this age. Sometimes a practical gift that fits with what her group is using is worth way more than something super creative that nobody else has.
The ideal thing really is to ask someone close to her - a parent, an aunt, an older friend - and drop some hints. Like, "I was thinking of getting something for your daughter, what is the girl obsessed with right now?" That saves you a lot of the hassle of getting it right by chance. Generic gifts at this age usually just gather dust.
