What's the fine for driving with a cracked windscreen?

I've got this chip in my windscreen that's been spreading for a few weeks now. It's not directly in my line of sight, but I'm worried I might get pulled over. Do they actually fine you for this, and how bad does the damage have to be before it becomes illegal?
