Used to see bats flying around the streetlights in the evenings. Haven't come across them almost at all over the last two or three years. Is this connected to insects or something else?
Most likely it's because of LED lights - they attract way fewer insects than old lightbulbs, so there's just nothing for the mice to catch. Plus all kinds of insecticides and pesticides year after year are poisoning insects, so mice have less and less normal food available.

Maybe there are fewer plants in the city now or the ecology has changed overall? You'd need to look at the specific situation - could be your area specifically has an insect problem, or maybe it's a lack of shelter for the mice.
