Why is Chrome draining battery so fast on my phone, how do I fix it?

I have a Samsung Galaxy A54 and since the last Chrome update the battery drains much faster. I've already tried closing open tabs and disabling extensions, but it's still the same. Does anyone know what could be causing this and how can I fix it?

Try disabling Chrome's background sync (Settings > Apps > Chrome > Battery > Manage battery usage) and turn on your phone's battery saver mode, which will also limit its consumption. If it's still bad, it's worth clearing the browser cache or even uninstalling and reinstalling the app, because sometimes a buggy update can really drain the battery.

Chrome might have tabs running in the background and refreshing content without you noticing - try clearing the app's cache and data (Settings > Apps > Chrome > Storage > Clear cache) because sometimes junk builds up that drains battery even when tabs are closed.

I had exactly this on my phone and the culprit was Chrome automatically refreshing tabs in the background. What fixed it was going to Settings > Apps > Chrome > Permissions and disabling "Location" and "Camera" - lots of websites ask for these and drain battery for no reason. Then I went to Settings > Apps > Chrome > Battery and set it to "Restricted" or "Optimized," depending on what Samsung offered.

But before that, the most important thing is really to turn off continuous sync. Go into Chrome > Settings > Google Account > Sync Manager and uncheck everything you don't actually need (usually it's everything). If you want, just leave passwords synced. After that, check if you have loads of tabs open - each one uses RAM and battery even if you're not using it. Cut it down to what you actually need.

If that doesn't work, try uninstalling and reinstalling Chrome. Sometimes the app gets a bit corrupted after updates and reinstalling fixes it. In the meantime, try Firefox - it drains less battery in most cases.
