Of course you have the right, a week is not "a lot of time" for a complaint about a defective product. Big stores like Carrefour have to be responsible for damaged items within a pretty wide timeframe (it depends on your country, but it's usually 30 days or more from the purchase). I'd recommend you go back with your receipt and the DVD, insist politely and ask to speak with a manager if the salesperson keeps refusing, because technically you bought a defective product.

A week is not much time. The seller is basically lying to you, most countries give you between 30 and 90 days to return or exchange a defective product. What you should do is go back to Carrefour with the DVD and ask to speak with a manager or supervisor, not just a regular salesperson. Bring your receipt and stay calm, but be firm with your complaint because you're totally right.
