Can I use whitening strips if I have composite bonding?

Owl US 🛠️ Specialist 👁 93 ⚑ Report Dental Care

I got composite bonding done on my two front teeth about 8 months ago and they look great. Now I'm thinking about doing a whitening strip treatment to brighten my overall smile, but I'm worried it might damage the bonding or make it look mismatched. Should I just avoid whitening strips altogether or is there a safe way to do this?

The whitening strips won't work on the composite itself, so you'd end up with noticeably whiter natural teeth and dingy-looking bonding - which is the real problem. Your best move is to talk to your dentist about doing a professional whitening first, then getting the composite replaced to match the new shade.
