I'm trying to decide where to play chess online seriously. I tried both for free for a couple of weeks, but I can't figure out which one is really better. What's your experience with them? Does one of them have a bigger community or offer better lessons?
Both are good, it depends on what you're looking for. Chess.com has more users and a larger community, so you find matches more easily at any level, but you have to pay to access certain features. Lichess is completely free, open source, and has a cleaner interface in my opinion, even if maybe a bit less polished. To really learn I'd recommend watching tutorial videos on YouTube instead of relying on the lessons built into one platform or the other, because that's where you'll find the best teachers regardless of where you play.
