I had constant lower back pain, and when I switched to a decent chair I noticed the difference, but honestly what helped me the most was getting up every so often and not staying seated like a statue. An ergonomic chair is useful if you pair it with movement and good posture, but if you sit badly for 8 straight hours in the best chair in the world it's not gonna work miracles either.

What a lot of people don't think about is that an ergonomic chair only works if you use it properly - monitor height, elbow position, all that stuff matters just as much as the backrest. An expensive chair won't save you if you spend 8 hours hunched over or with your feet dangling.

An ergonomic chair helps, but with a big asterisk: lots of people buy one and then use it wrong without realizing it. This happened to some people I know who dropped serious cash on a "premium" chair but had it way too high or reclined too far back, and obviously didn't feel any difference. What most people overlook is that the chair is only part of the puzzle - your monitor needs to be at eye level, your feet properly supported on the floor, knees at a 90-degree angle. If your whole setup is dialed in correctly, yeah, you'll notice the improvement. But if you just buy the chair expecting it to work magic, you're gonna be disappointed.
