Does anyone else collect DVDs? Is it still worth it?

I've got a collection of about 200 DVDs that I've been gathering since 2008, mostly action movies and TV series. But with Netflix, Prime Video and all these streaming platforms out there, hardly anyone wants to buy physical anymore. Is it worth continuing to invest in this or should I just sell everything?

I have a bunch of DVDs too, honestly more out of habit than anything else, and the truth is streaming platforms work fine for everyday use. But here's the thing: if you really care about those movies, DVDs still have value, especially rare ones or special editions, and you don't depend on the internet or someone randomly deciding to remove the content. If they're just regular DVDs and you mainly want to free up space at home, it makes more sense to sell them now while there's still a market for it (OLX, Vinted, etc). It really comes down to whether it's sentimental attachment or just hoarding - if it's the latter, get rid of them.

Depends a lot on what you want to do with it all. If it's a collection you actually watch and like having there on the shelf, it makes sense to keep it - streaming goes down, internet goes down, or you just want to rewatch a movie without scrolling around for an hour. Now, if it's been gathering dust since 2015 because you switched to streaming, then yeah, sell it, pocket the cash.

The thing is, physical DVDs are only worth keeping if you actually watch them regularly - it doesn't make sense to hoard 200 discs taking up space when you're using streaming anyway. Now, if you've got rare titles or special editions that you like having around, that's different, because streaming platforms go down, remove content, change their catalogs... and you're left with nothing. My advice is to sell most of them, but keep the ones you really love and actually go back to watch every year - hang onto those few so you don't regret it later.
