Fishing on beach vs river - where do I catch more fish?
I have a free weekend and I want to take my son fishing. I'm torn between going to the beach in Óbidos or going to the Vouga River. Which place is better for catching something decent?

It depends on what you're looking for, but honestly to take a kid fishing, the beach is better - you'll catch bass or gilthead bream more easily, and he'll have fun even if he doesn't catch anything because there's always action. The Vouga river is calmer but you need patience and to know the spots well, plus in July it's quite dry up there.
The beach in Óbidos will give you more fish, that's true, but the Vouga river has the advantage of being calmer for teaching a kid - fewer waves, weaker current, and you can control where he stays better. If your goal is just results and guaranteed fun, stick with the beach. Now, if you want a more relaxed weekend with less risk, the river is worth it.
