I'd say it's versatile for summer - you can lift the chin bar when you get hot and it's way more comfortable on a ride. I've had one for a few years now and I've never regretted it, especially during my trips to job sites in the summer.
# The modular helmet clearly has the edge in summer, but you've got to pick your model carefully because they're not all equal when it comes to ventilation. Full-face helmets do offer better protection and less noise, that's true, but you're gonna really cook in there during city rides or traffic jams. With a modular, you've got the flexibility to flip up the chin bar when it's bearable, and that changes everything for thermal comfort.
One thing people often forget: look for a modular helmet with actually effective air vents on the sides and front of the crown, not just one or two tiny holes. The temperature difference between a good ventilation system and a bad one is easily 5-10°C over a long ride. And make sure the chin bar lifts without too much effort and stays properly in place at highway speed if you ever need to flip it while you're riding - some models don't seal well when it's lifted.
The other thing: try it on before you buy if you can. A budget modular helmet with just minimal slots isn't any better than a full-face. But a good modular with real ventilation actually designed for that, honestly it's the sweet spot for summer.
