Pan de muerto is a way of inviting the deceased to share a meal, as if they were still part of the family on that special day. You can explain to the children that it's a gift made with love, similar to when you prepare someone's favorite food for a person you love - the sweet, fluffy bread represents that we want those who have passed away to feel welcomed and remembered. It's also a symbol that death doesn't separate families, but rather on Day of the Dead we're still together, just in a different way.
