The most important thing is to start super slowly and give your guinea pig time to get used to the harness before you take it outside. Start indoors by just laying the harness next to your guinea pig so it can get used to it. Then you can gently put it on when your pet is relaxed - maybe while it's eating or just hanging out comfortably. Let it wear it for just a few minutes at first and reward it with treats.
If that goes well, attach the leash and let your guinea pig walk around the house with it - without pulling on it! You just need to hold the leash and make sure it doesn't fall off anything 😅 After a few days of training, you can carefully practice in the garden. The key is really to never use force and always stay in control - guinea pigs are small, sensitive animals and can get stressed easily.
Also important: make sure the harness fits properly - not too tight, not too loose. And always give your guinea pig the chance to hide or take breaks when it's had enough. Not all guinea pigs are leash types, and that's totally okay! Some just don't like it, and then you shouldn't push it too hard 🐹
