How do I know if my acoustic guitar needs a new bridge?

My guitar is about 8 years old and I've noticed the bridge seems to be lifting slightly at the edges. The action has gotten higher too, and I'm wondering if this is a sign it needs replacing or if it's just something that happens with age. Should I take it to a luthier or can I do this myself?

A lifting bridge is usually a sign the glue bond is failing and it does need replacing - that's pretty common after 8 years, especially if the guitar's been in varying humidity. This isn't a DIY job unless you have experience; a luthier can remove it cleanly, check the top for damage, and fit a new bridge properly, which makes a real difference in how the guitar plays.
