The most important thing is to exfoliate regularly, like every 2-3 days with a gentle exfoliant or a soft washcloth, because ingrown hairs happen when dead skin covers them 🧖‍♂️ On top of moisturizing, get yourself a cream or lotion with lactic or salicylic acid (the ones that say "for post-hair removal" work better than regular moisturizer), and avoid tight clothing for the first few days after you epilate because that puts pressure on your skin and makes everything worse. If that doesn't help, think about switching methods - some people find that laser hair removal causes fewer ingrown hair problems than waxing.

Exfoliation is key, but what really works for me is doing it *before* you wax, not after. I started gently exfoliating a day before my wax appointment and it cut down the ingrown hair problem quite a bit.

The other thing is that regular moisturizer isn't enough - you need something with gentle acids like AHA or BHA that keep your skin clear. Some people use body lotion with glycolic acid every night on the areas where you wax, and that makes a difference. Also, tight clothes after waxing make them worse, so those first few days it's better to wear something looser.

It's not just about exfoliating, it's about being consistent and gentle - most people go too hard and end up irritating their skin right after depilation, which makes everything worse. What you're probably missing is a step: use a product with salicylic or glycolic acid (not a mechanical exfoliant) a few days after depilation, once the initial irritation has gone down, because that dissolves dead skin without being harsh. Also, make sure you're not wearing really tight clothes those first few days - friction against hairs that are trying to come out is what actually traps them. Regular moisturizer doesn't do anything about this because it doesn't address the real problem, which is dead skin buildup blocking the hair's way out.
