How do I set boundaries when my kid wants to stream everything?

My 9-year-old is constantly asking for subscriptions - Netflix, YouTube Premium, Discord Nitro, you name it. He sees his friends have access to all this stuff and thinks we're being unfair. I want him to understand that we can't just pay for everything, but he doesn't really get why other families seem to have it all. How do I explain this without making him feel like we're the poor family?

The thing is, most families don't actually have all those subscriptions - kids just see what their friends brag about, not the full picture of what their parents actually pay for. Frame it less as "we can't afford it" and more as "we choose to spend our money on different things that matter to us," then maybe let him pick ONE subscription he really cares about so he feels heard instead of just told no.
