In your YouTube account settings, there's a "History and privacy" section where you can turn off your watch history and recommendations based on it. Though you won't be able to get rid of all recommendations completely - YouTube will still suggest popular stuff - but personalized picks will disappear.

I used to try to get rid of recommendations too, because they're constantly distracting. You can't turn them off completely - YouTube won't let you - but you can minimize them. In your account settings there's a section on privacy and history where you can turn off your watch and search history, then the recommendations become completely depersonalized. Another option is to install a browser extension that hides the sidebar with video suggestions, or just use YouTube in incognito mode, but that requires signing back in every time.
