The most important thing is to store the leaves really dry - moisture is the enemy. If you can unpack the salad right after buying it, put it in a container with paper towels that absorb the moisture, and cover it loosely (not airtight). With arugula, the classic trick works well too: wrap damp paper towels around the stems and then put it in a plastic bag, but with a bit of air inside - the salad stays fresh longer that way, usually around 5-7 days. Some people also swear by washing the salad you bought first and then spinning it dry or air-drying it before it goes in the fridge, so you're not storing it wet.

For me it works best if I put the lettuce into a container with paper towels right after shopping - don't leave it in the original packaging 😅 The paper absorbs the excess moisture that otherwise makes it all mushy. I change the paper after a few days, and then arugula and leafy greens stay fresh for me easily a week.
