For 1440p in 2026, 8GB is still the sweet spot for most games, so 6GB will start showing its limits pretty quick - you'll hit memory issues in newer AAA titles. Going to 12GB gives you breathing room and means you won't have to upgrade again for a few years, so if the price difference isn't huge it's worth it. The real question is what card you're looking at and how much more it costs, since a better 8GB card might serve you better than a budget 12GB model.

The jump from 6GB to 12GB really comes down to how long you plan to keep the card - if you're thinking three years or more, 12GB makes sense since games keep pushing memory demands, but if you're upgrading sooner than that, 6GB will handle 1440p fine for another year or two with some settings tweaks in the heavier stuff.
