What's your current skill level - are you still learning basics or have you got some fundamentals down? Most people benefit from sparring once or twice a week after they've trained for a few months and can throw techniques without thinking too hard about them, but honestly the best approach is talking to your coach since they know where you actually are in your training.

Christine asker Still in basics, been training about 6 weeks. My coach says to focus on pad work first.

the main thing is waiting till your hands and footwork feel solid before you step into sparring - rushing it just builds bad habits. once you've got maybe 3-4 months of regular pad work under your belt, ease in with light sparring at half pace, maybe once a week or even every other week at first. as you get sharper you can bump it up to twice weekly, but honestly the quality matters way more than the frequency. plenty of folks get obsessed with sparring early and either burn out or pick up sloppy technique they have to unlearn later.
