Why does my chin feel weird after getting hit during sparring?

I've been training Muay Thai for about 4 months now. During sparring last week, my training partner landed a solid shot on my chin and it's been a couple days. It doesn't hurt exactly, but it feels numb and tingly. Is this normal or should I be concerned about going back?

Get it checked by a doctor before you step back into sparring - numbness and tingling after a direct hit to the chin can indicate nerve irritation or bruising that needs proper assessment, and you don't want to risk making it worse by training too soon.

A few days is still early in the healing process, and while some soreness is normal in combat sports, that specific sensation of numbness isn't something to just push through. Once you get cleared, you'll probably be fine to return, but rushing it when your body's sending those signals is how people end up with lingering issues.

numbness and tingling isn't always a red flag - could just be nerve compression from swelling that'll settle in a few more days - but ice it hard for the next 48 hours if you haven't already, and gently massage around the area (not directly on it!) to help with circulation!

that said if it's still weird after another week or gets worse, yeah definitely see someone before you spar again because you don't want to risk a repeat hit to an already aggravated spot!
