Don't just keep everything in a mess - it'll turn into total chaos. For taxes, you need to keep them around 6 years in case the tax authorities check your returns - after that, you can toss them. Best thing is to scan them or ask your bank directly if they can send them to you as PDFs (most do now), then organize them by year in folders. If you really want to keep paper copies, use binders or archive boxes by year, but honestly digital is way less of a hassle.
