How to deal with a coworker who works from home and never responds

ST Stella IT 📗 Student 👁 59 ⚑ Report Professions

There's someone on my team who's always working from home, and whenever you try to reach him on Teams or email, it takes him hours to respond. The boss doesn't say anything because technically he finishes his projects, but it's frustrating to coordinate with him. What can I do without looking like I'm throwing him under the bus?

Try contacting him on Teams with short, specific messages like "when do you need this by?" instead of long emails - that way it's harder to ignore and you're asking for a clear deadline. If he keeps not responding, you can document these delays (save a couple of conversations) and bring them to your boss not as a personal complaint but as a team coordination issue - something like "we need to align on how to handle urgent communications." In the meantime, for tasks that depend on him, maybe you could move things forward or find workarounds so you're not just stuck waiting.
