How to improve my reflexes as a goalkeeper in home training

I'm a goalkeeper on a local team and I want to train during the week but I barely have any space. I've seen some exercises with tennis balls and walls, but I'm not sure if they actually work or if I'm just wasting time. What can I do at home to get sharper reflexes?

Ball exercises against the wall help, but it really depends on how you do them - if you just throw it at yourself in a predictable way you end up getting used to the pattern and you don't actually improve real reflexes! What works better is varying things a lot: weird angles, double bounces, having the ball hit you without warning. You can also get someone to throw the ball at you from different distances and heights, or get into a game where you have to make saves without knowing exactly where it's going - that actually trains your reflexes because your body has to react without anticipation. Lateral jumps and core stability work matter a lot too, because quick reflexes don't mean anything if your body isn't ready to move!

What's going to help you the most is training your reactions with a ball against the wall: throw it to yourself at different heights and angles, and catch it as fast as possible 🎾 Besides that, hand-eye coordination exercises like juggling or using a reflex app give you real results without needing much space. Honestly, these home workouts work because they train your reaction time, which is what matters on the field, but obviously they don't replace actual shooting drills with your team.

Don't waste time with exercises that just keep you busy but without real pressure - you need training where you're forced to react fast because the ball is actually coming at you and you don't know exactly where. The tennis ball against the wall thing works, but make it more challenging: throw it at yourself from different distances, sometimes it bounces weird, sometimes it goes straight, and get it into your head that every save counts like it's a match. The secret is not to repeat the same movement mechanically - vary constantly so your body adapts to new situations instead of just memorizing patterns, which is what's going to fail you when the real match comes.
