It's not that it won't last long if you store it properly, but basically you need to sterilize the jars, let the sauce cool completely, and keep it in the fridge, or if you want it to last for months, you can freeze it in portions! Homemade sauce holds up pretty well as long as you don't let air or bacteria get into it.
If you freeze it in small portions (like in ice cube trays or small bags), that's the best thing you can do, because then you can take out just what you need without thawing the whole thing at once. That way it lasts practically a year without any issues, and when you use it in a recipe it tastes the same as when you made it.
