iPhone 16 Pro battery draining super fast, is that normal?

I got the iPhone 16 Pro a week ago and the battery lasts like 5-6 hours with normal use, scrolling social media and taking some photos. My friends with older models are doing better than me. I've already tried disabling Bluetooth and location services but nothing. Do you think it's a defect or should I wait for iOS to optimize everything?

Don't wait for iOS to optimize on its own, because 5-6 hours is really not much and your device is brand new. Try resetting your network settings (Settings > General > Transfer or Reset > Reset > Reset Network Settings): sometimes the phone stays connected to weak Wi-Fi networks or keeps searching for 4G/5G signal when it doesn't need to, and that stuff drains your battery without you even noticing. If it still doesn't improve after that, contact support because it could be a manufacturing defect with the battery itself.

I wouldn't say that's normal, actually. Your iPhone 16 Pro should easily last you a full day with what you're doing. Five hours is not much, especially for a brand new device. iOS might actually optimize things a bit over the first few days, but it shouldn't affect your battery life that drastically.

Try checking which app is using the most battery. Go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health and see how the cell is doing; if it's already degraded (below 80-85%) your device might have a manufacturing defect. Disconnect from your home Wi-Fi for an hour and use mobile data instead, it could be that your phone is desperately trying to connect to something that's not working right. Restart your phone from scratch by resetting your network settings (it won't erase your data, just your saved connections).

If it keeps happening after all this, honestly I'd go back to the store or contact Apple. A week in and you're still under full warranty, and for such abnormal battery drain they have a duty to replace it for you. This isn't something you should have to fix yourself with updates.

Have you checked if some app running in the background is draining your battery? Because yeah, iOS sometimes needs a few days to settle down, but 5-6 hours is really short for a brand new device - I'd say it's worth checking in Settings > Battery > Battery Usage and seeing if there's some crazy app eating up resources. If the problem keeps happening after a week or two, honestly I'd ask for a replacement, could be a defect with the battery itself!
