Is a keratin treatment actually worth it or is it just hype?

I've had curly, frizzy hair for two years now, and people have recommended keratin treatment to me a thousand times. I've seen girls on TikTok with incredible results after spending 80-120 euros, but then I read that your hair stays straight for a couple of months and you have to do it again. Has anyone here actually tried it? Is it worth it financially or am I just getting scammed?

It works, but it's temporary and expensive if you think about it long-term. Spending 100 euros every two months is like 600 a year, so before you go down that road try moisturizing masks from a good brand or a good cut that controls frizz, since it's way cheaper and sometimes gives you almost the same result.

Keratin really does reduce frizz and leaves your hair more manageable, but the catch is that how long it lasts depends a lot on how you wash and care for your hair afterwards - if you use regular shampoo it's gone in three weeks, not two months. That said, 600 euros a year is a lot if all you're after is getting your curls under control; before you go for it, have you already tried a good leave-in conditioner or an oil serum? Those cost less than 20 euros per bottle and last you months, and honestly for a lot of people with curly hair that's enough. If frizz really drives you crazy and regular products don't work for you at all, then I'd say it's worth it, but not as an indefinite routine.

The thing is, it's not pure marketing, but it's also not the solution you need for permanently curly hair - it's more of a temporary fix that only makes sense if you see it as an occasional treat, not a maintenance routine. Before you drop 100 euros, try a quality leave-in conditioner (there are good ones even in budget brands) and dry your hair with a diffuser instead of rubbing it with a towel; most people don't realize that drying is what causes 70% of the frizz. If after you sort that out your hair is still a mess, then it makes sense to consider it, but you're gonna see significant improvements without touching the keratin. And if you eventually do get it done, how long it lasts really depends on using sulfate-free shampoo - with regular shampoo it'll wash out in a month, so the real cost is what you're spending on that combined.
