Is it a dealbreaker if they're not on social media at all?

I've been talking to this person for a couple weeks and they literally have no Instagram, TikTok, or anything. When I asked why, they said they just prefer to keep their life private. I'm not sure if this is a red flag or if I'm being paranoid. Does anyone else find it weird when someone has zero online presence?

Not weird at all - honestly plenty of people just don't vibe with social media and would rather keep things offline, which is totally valid. The fact that they gave you a straightforward answer about why suggests they're not hiding anything sketchy, just genuinely preferring privacy. If you're concerned about getting to know them, focus on what you learn from actual conversations instead of their digital footprint. A red flag would be if they got defensive or gave dodgy answers, but "I like my privacy" is pretty straightforward.

What would actually worry you more - someone hiding their life, or someone just choosing not to broadcast it?

I'd say it's the opposite of a red flag. Someone who actively avoids social media and owns it rather than sneaking around on five burner accounts seems more trustworthy to me. I know someone I've been close to for years who has zero online presence; turns out they just got burned by oversharing in their twenties and decided it wasn't worth it. They're one of the most genuine people I know, partly because they're not curating some version of themselves for an audience. The real question is whether they're open with *you* directly - sounds like they are, since they explained their reasoning without making it weird.

Dennis asker Yeah, that makes sense. They've been pretty open with me about other stuff too, so I think I was just being paranoid. Thanks.
