It really depends on your pace! What nobody mentions is that Amsterdam's canals are your best ally - a boat ride lets you actually see the historic facades without the physical effort, and you get time to admire them like you would on foot but covering way more ground. If you have to choose between biking and walking, combine both: take the bike for longer distances (the northern canals for example) and get off to walk whenever you spot something that catches your eye. Biking alone, you're rushed, walking alone you'll wear yourself out - mix the two and you really get to enjoy it!

Biking is clearly the best way to visit Amsterdam - you cover more ground and you move at the same speed as the locals. On foot you'll get tired pretty quickly and you'll miss out on a lot of stuff, unless you really want to take your time in the city center hanging out in the little alleyways. But it really depends on what you're looking for - if it's just the historic heart with the canals and museums, you can manage on foot, but honestly rent a bike as soon as you get there, it's not expensive and it makes all the difference.

On foot you've still got the advantage of really seeing the details, the little alleyways, the façades 😊 whereas on a bike you go fast and miss a bunch of stuff. But it depends what you're looking for - if you want to cover as much distance as possible then yeah, the bike is faster, but for that authentic vibe and just wandering around at your own pace, your feet are better.

It's not really a binary choice, you can totally mix both during your stay 🚲 I've got friends who went there and they'd bike for longer distances, then they'd park themselves in a nice neighborhood and explore the little streets on foot when something caught their interest. So they got the best of both worlds without overdoing it. If you force yourself to pick just one option for three days you're gonna regret it, but if you've got the time combine them and you'll really get the most out of it.
