Is it still expected to do a big family reunion every summer?

My extended family used to do this massive reunion at my grandparents' place every July, but the last couple years people have been flaking out or suggesting we just do video calls instead. It feels like fewer families are keeping this tradition going, but I'm not sure if it's just us or if this is actually becoming less common.

It's definitely less common now - logistics are harder with people scattered, work schedules are messier, and honestly a lot of folks have just gotten used to staying connected without the big annual gathering. Your family's not alone in this, and it doesn't mean the tradition's dead, just that it takes more effort to keep going and a lot of people are figuring out what actually matters to them instead of doing it just because they always did.
