Is it worth building a wooden house or a traditional masonry house?

I'm thinking of building a small villa from scratch in the province of Brescia and I'm wondering what the best choice would be. I've seen various ads for wooden houses over the past few years, but I'm not really sure if it's actually worth it compared to traditional construction. I'm mainly interested in understanding the cost issue, the timelines, and how banks view them when you need a mortgage.
